RoboBraille is an email-based translation service capable of translating documents to and from contracted Braille and synthetic speech. RoboBraille is also capable of converting .pdf-, .tiff-, and .gif-files into more accessible document formats. The translation service supports Danish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Greek and Lithuanian.
The RoboBraille service is available free of charge to all non-commercial users. Companies and Institutions who wish to produce documents in Braille or audio on the basis of RoboBraille is offered a tailor made service agreement.
RoboBraille attempts to solve a universal problem as it makes textual information accessible to people who would otherwise find it inaccessible due to visual impairment or reading difficulties. The service is developed jointly by The National Centre for Visual Impairment for Children and Youth in Region Zealand (Synscenter Refaes) and Sensus ApS, and is named winner of several international awards.
Currently, the further development of the service is supported by the Danish Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of the Interior and Social Affairs, and Velux.
