Development and Innovation

For people with disabilities, Information Technology represents a double-edged sword. On the one hand, IT can offer new possibilities when used to create access to otherwise inaccessible information and systems. It can be the case for technology promoting new teaching methods. Also, many new technologies features functions that make them applicable as assistive technology.

On the other hand, IT often brings about new barriers. As an example, people who are visually impaired or print impaired often face great difficulties in accessing digital catalogues. Likewise, many ticket and information systems are unusable for people who cannot see. Furthermore, many websites hosted by public authorities necessitate that the end-users are able to select menu options by means of a mouse. Accordingly, people who are visually impaired, spastic, suffer from repetitive strain injuries or motile disabilities frequently have difficulties in accessing public websites.

Sensus perception of innovation is based on the following principles:

  • We are constantly on the lookout for new technologies that could be applied in creating a more accessible and inclusive information society.
  • We are always doing our best to challenge ourselves, our customers and our partners to find new ways of employing existing technologies to create new opportunities and improves the digital accessibility.
  • We are confident that it is possible to embed new information technology with the purpose of making inaccessible information systems better and more accessible.
