Accessibility and Inclusion

Sensus advises on IT-accessibility and accessible web design, performs accessibility audits and conducts national and international accessibility surveys.

The Sensus accessibility services are based on internationally recognised standards and guidelines, including the accessibility guidelines published by the W3C. The W3C accessibility guidelines also form the foundation for the official Danish accessibility requirements.

Sensus contributes to the standardisation efforts and offer both public and tailor-made training courses on accessibility and accessible design. Sensus also produces material in alternative, accessible formats such as audio, Braille and large print, including text, illustrations, labels and signs.

Sensus is a founder member of the European eAccess+ network. With financial support from the European Commission, the purpose of the eAccess+ network is to improve the implementation of eAccessibility throughout Europe.

Alternative Media Solutions

Sensus develops innovative technologies that support inclusion of people with special needs in mainstream education, on the labour market and in society as a whole. For the past 25 years, Sensus has fostered a wide range of solutions including the award-winning RoboBraille service that converts documents into Braille, mp3 files, structured audio books, ebooks and other accessible formats.

Other technologies include SensusLibrary, a digital library for alternate media; SensusAccess, a self-service alternative media solution for students and facilty at academic institutions; SensusBraille, a multi-lingual Braille transcription and formatting library; SensusAutoBraille, a single-source Braille publication solution that converts Daisy files into contracted, hyphenated, multi-volume Braille books; and SensusReader, an ebook reader for tablet computers that supports the individual needs of the partially sighted.

Sensus' mission is to contribute towards an accessible and inclusive information society.

Project Development and Management

Through its accessibility and technology development activities, Sensus has gained significant experience in project development, project management and funding.

These competencies – covering the creative inauguration, development and maturation of new ideas, knowledge of national and European support programmes, as well as experience in preparing applications to these programmes, formation of international consortia, and management of international projects – is made available by Sensus to organisations with good ideas for new innovative products or services while at the same time lack the required competencies and resources to realize the ideas.

Collaborating with staff from organisations, Sensus can help define, describe and qualify the idea into a project proposal, identify relevant sources of financing, prepare applications, and provide project management and project administration throughout the lifetime of the project.
